Procreation’s Expiration Date - 2009
$1,995.00
This piece is about our limited time to live and create. I also got comments about this piece from the Spiritual and Religious Show, but they where more along the lines of, oh yeah I know that piece. So what does that mean? It is good to be noticed and remembered though. Others have said wow, that is so beautiful. I love how it turned out and how the light plays with the clear acrylic. It took forever to melt and shape it, but the look is terrific. Note that the eggs have barcodes and expiration dates on them.

This piece is made from reclaimed wood ( when we tore down our wall – from 1969 ). I also used old books, made ceramic trees, and harvested peach pits or seeds depending on how you look at it. That’s the core of this work, is having children a pit, or a seed in your life, your future? The seeds or pits can slide back and forth on the metal rod. One side of the rod is pros the others cons. Obviously I consider children seeds, or possibilities for growth.

Better lighting makes a huge difference! I love this piece, it really turned out great. Art seems to be like a maze that if you are lucky, results in a wholeness or symmetry. . . in other words you find the center of what you are trying to say.

I had about five different titles for this one, and I believe it ended up with the title “Becoming New”. The lighting in the Springville Museum is difficult to work around, but the photos turned out alright. I didn’t realize what it meant to get the award at first, but then I looked at the list of other merit award winners and felt I was in really good company. I have had some really good comments on this one, and really enjoyed making it.

This is one of my favorites of the Rest in God series. It was amazing how the construction of the piece came together. Everything from the bluing of the steel, coating of the clay with wax, details of the hardware, to the lighting of the alabaster fish. It was terrific how I was able to hide the hardware for the light under the cradle shape. Oh, I forgot to mention that before, all the Rest in God pieces ( except two ) light up.
On days like this when my kids are terrific and acting so grown up, I feel sad that they are no longer babies. Their childhood is going so incredibly fast, I hope I can teach them what they need while I can.

This wall piece was made a couple of years ago when I was trying to get my boys to sleep through the night. It took about two years for each to figure it out, I was so not myself during that time. The back is painted and weathered metal, and the pillows are ceramic, covered with different waxes.

This lovely small piece is about the growth and pain of learning. Included in the foundation of the piece are rose thorns, and a soapstone leaf. The feet of the foundation have layers, as the sand stone canyons around Utah. These layers were caused by sediment of different times and events. Learning develops in the same way.

What is the accumulated foundation of your home? What is most important to you, and are you spending time and effort on the most important, while you can?

This is number seven of the “Rest in God” series. The two fish represent a finial stage of rest where our heart and our mind are aligned with God. This is the point in our progress where we no longer rest in the hope and faith that God can get us through, but we are at peace, our souls can rest as we are with God.

This is an amazing piece. Each corner is “sutured” up with a different tag, Family, God, Forgiveness, and Love. The foundation of the piece is constructed of home and family how to books, or knowledge. Built on knowledge, held together by the ways of God, and weathered by life.
