Step 7 – Humility

Painting number seven, Humility, is vital. If one cannot be humble enough to learn, one cannot progress. I began this series to understand my sons and their journey.  The use of birds is inclusive to all people and cultures.

Description

When we come to this step we we rest on Him and ask for removal of our weaknesses. The bird shown here is a powerful hawk, but no matter how strong we think we are recovery is not possible alone.
This Red-tailed Hawk is used to being the predator in life. He has thought his strength was enough, even over addiction. Here we see that resting on the cross, or in this case, the powerlines can enable one to regain strength to move foreword. The powerlines are obviously a symbol of Christ as the power in our lives. The lost feathers represent the shedding of our pride. The stars are wishes that seem so out of reach. But with this knowledge that we can’t do all things, unless we have help, we can indeed recover.
